A Galaxy of UF Stars
Astraeus — meaning “Starry-one.” Greek mythological figure with dominion over the stars and planets.
Just as Astraeus guided the celestial bodies across the heavens in Greek mythology, the Astraeus Space Institute gathers a constellation of academic stars at UF for collaborative research that supports humanity’s ability to explore the universe and curates new partnerships essential to space exploration.
With funding from the UF President’s Strategic Funding Initiative and UF Research, the institute is supporting interdisciplinary seed projects, recruiting world-class leaders in space science and technology, and promoting its capabilities in space mission innovation.
The institute is enhancing existing relationships with NASA, the Kennedy Space Center, Space Florida, the Space Life Sciences Laboratory, and the International Space Station National Laboratory. It’s also leveraging UF’s proximity to the world’s premier launch site to help grow the commercial space ecosystem in Florida in partnership with launch providers like SpaceX, Blue Origin, United Launch Alliance and many other space services companies.
“Our vision for this hub of space exploration sees experts from many colleges at UF working together on the most demanding questions related to space exploration, development, and commercialization.”
– David Norton, UF Vice President for Research
